Public Projects

The Project includes the following Work: The project will replace and re-align approximately 420 linear feet of 42-inch corrugated metal pipe (CMP) with 42” Reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) along with 6 drainage structures. Over the last several years, a sinkhole has appeared in the greenspace between the fire department and Ridge Street NW above the 42-inch CMP pipe system. The CMP storm drainage system from West Avenue NW to Ridge Street NW is in a state of failure. This project will abandon approximately 210 linear feet of existing 42-inch CMP in place, replace or relocate approximately 271 linear feet of 8” Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) sanitary sewer along with 3 sanitary sewer manholes, and miscellaneous grading to repair the sinkhole. Foundation protection will be installed on the north side of the fire department building. The existing storm drainage and sanitary sewer systems are 25 ft and 30 ft deep, respectively, and special consideration will need to be taken to provide sheeting/shoring during construction. Utility coordination, traffic control, erosion control, and site improvements are also included within the scope of this project.

The Terminal Modifications project will include a major renovation project to the existing terminal, including the addition of a sterile holding area, a Checked Bag Reconciliation Area, an Exterior Bag Claim, a Shared Ticket Counter/Bag Staging Area, and additional renovations for future terminal projects. Services for this project include the earthwork, grading, foundation, structural, and architectural components of the terminal expansion.

The work to be done consists of furnishing all materials, equipment, and labor necessary to construct the Miller Road to Morgan Avenue stormwater system improvements – Phase I consisting approximately 2652 LF of new RCP storm drainage and 28 drainage boxes, and miscellaneous demolition, utility relocation, and fine grading to facilitate the project.

Scope of project includes – Crack Repair of Runway 4-22, the North Apron, and the T-Hangar Taxilanes; Marking of the Existing Runway; Marking of the Connector Taxiways up to and including the Holding Positions

The Project consists of construction of approximately 5,300 liner feet of 18-inch force main, 15,400 liner feet of 16-inch waterline and 1,450 liner feet of 24-inch thru 30-inch gravity sewer, including sixteen jack-and-bore road crossings and an odor control station.

The project includes the construction of a site for up to two 60 foot by 60 foot box hangars. The project also includes the grading of an existing stormwater management basin and the use of an existing earthwork stockpile on-site.

The Avery County Airport Authority is proceeding with the construction of a new Terminal Building and Corporate Hangar at the Avery County Airport in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. The project will include the demolition of the existing terminal building and two attached hangars, construction of a new Terminal Building in the footprint of the existing building to be demolished, and the construction of a new 10,000 square foot Corporate Hangar just north of Terminal. The scope of this project is to include all sitework, grading and drainage improvements, Airfield Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) and hot mix asphalt (HMA) paving, extension of existing and new utility services to the building locations, gate and fence installation, and all work associated with the construction of the new buildings. The project shall conform to all applicable NCDOT and FAA construction requirements as well as the applicable Federal and State Building Codes.

The Project consists of the construction of approximately 3,150 linear feet of 6-inch diameter ductile iron waterline to replace existing 2-inch diameter galvanized waterline, the transfer of existing water services from existing 2-inch diameter galvanized waterlines to the new 6-inch diameter ductile iron waterlines, fire hydrants, water service connection, water meters, and all other associated appurtenances.

The Project consists generally of the following major items: Removal and replacement of an existing endwall for a 96” RCP culvert crossing Saratoga Drive. Work shall include clearing, temporary shoring, pipe extension, foundation preparation, endwall placement, and bank stabilization. Additional items include, but are not limited to, maintenance of traffic, erosion control and soil stabilization, and restoration or existing roadway and residential infrastructure.

The work completed will include installation of a bioretention area and associated plantings and locating and repairing or replacing drainage infrastructure.
